SPOOKY SOUND POEM
Halloween is an excellent time of year to discover sounds! Our fabulous first graders have been adding instrument sounds to a poem to make it more interesting and exciting. We had so much fun deciding which instruments to add at different parts of the story! See an example here |
ANIMAL COMPOSITIONS
We have been learning about "The Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saens. After moving, listening, and playing, the students created their own animal compositions in small groups. They chose instruments to represent an animal based on what they learned about high/low, loud/quiet, fast/slow, and bumpy/smooth. They used their "music detective" skills to decide what would "fit" with their animal. This was a great opportunity to discuss timbre, or quality of sound. I am so impressed with their choices!
